Birth Plan

[this is good]
Sounds like a good plan that allows room for changes. Just remember that birth can be unpredictable--don't agonize if something happens and you wind up having to get an intervention you don't want. Remember that the most important part is that your baby is born and that you and the baby are both healthy.

For example, once my guy's head and shoulders were out, I was allowed to pull him out the rest of the way and directly onto my chest. But then he wasn't breathing, so I wasn't able to try to nurse right away. He was taken from me (but not from the room), the NICU nurses rushed in, and everyone was hovering over him. His first APGAR score was only 3, but his second was 8. We had trouble getting the nursing relationship started for the first day or two (he wouldn't even try to latch on). I would have loved to have nursed him right away, because that's supposed to be good for establishing the relationship. But when your baby isn't breathing, nursing comes second! I'm not going to beat myself up, of course. My guy was healthy and didn't even have to spend time in the NICU.
