I had a CNM appointment today and expected to discover gummi bear's gender but to no avail. It's not time yet for a u/s of medical necessity. The anatomy u/s is done at 20 weeks, that appointment isn't until December 17th. In the meantime, Pablo and I are going to research some u/s tech colleges in our area. We've heard of one that will do them for free to help train the techies. Still, I bring updated belly pics, I am growing concerned about my weight gain. I sensed that I had gained 5-6 lbs since the last appointment. I was right, which is troublesome as that appointment was only a month ago. I have to step up the exercise, it was virtually non-existent in the 1st trimester. I ordered a book called, Maternal Fitness from Amazon. I select Amazon items based on the amount of reviews and the strength of the reviews. I need a program to follow and this may be the answer.
Overall, I have been making good snack choices, I still need more discipline when I am dining out and choose more healthy options. I definitely need to increase my protein intake and cut down on the carbs,Other baby planning accomplishments:
1. Doula Search: Interviewed a doula that I found on the DASC website. Her name is Becky and I think she's the 'one'. Pablo and I feel comfortable with her. Her story is that she was an Anthropology major at UCLA and one professor invited a doula to her class to speak. After attending her first certification class she was hooked. I admire her for leaping into the profession with very little support. While on the DASC website, I located some blog links to other doulas, one of them compiled awesome positive (and funny) birth stories. One in particular has such powerful and beautiful photography with it. Here they are for your enjoyment.
2. Baby registry: I started a registry at Target. I would appreciate feedback on my selection. Look us up by Pablo and Vanessa G (for the last initial), in Los Angeles, CA I would especially like to know if I am missing 'critical pieces' or if you are aware of any baby products highly rated by Consumer Reports that I may add. I know there are no gender-specific items (b/c we still don't know)
3. BFW: I absolutely LOVE this book. I have begun my first piece of birth art in a sketchbook. I will continue to visit my sketchbook as the months progress. I have also reached the chapters that speak about remaining active in labor and some exercises to gauge your pain tolerance and your response to its intensity.
4. Craigslist Finds: Wow! What a $$$ saver, so many gently used designer baby items available. So far, we have acquired a shopping car seat cover, a breathable bumper guard, and a Diaper Dekor pail with 2 unopened boxes of refills, all for $70. That diaper pail is highly rated by CR for its one-handed ease and smell containment. It easily doubles as a trashcan. I checked it on Target and it's $35 for pail and $21 for the refill bags.
Hooray, I am up to blogging every 2 weeks. I feel that is an accomplishment considering that I rise at 5:30 am and get home at 7:00 pm, 5 days a week. Sometimes, I work Saturdays too, those are only 7 hour days. I love the climate that I work in with all the dedicated teachers. Blogging is time that I take to care for my personal self
